Lamplighter changes how Google Docs looks in your browser and adds a few writing tools. It has no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no ads. Your documents' text is counted on your computer and never sent anywhere. Your settings and any writing challenge (its doc titles and counts) sync between your own computers through Chrome sync; daily word counts stay on this computer. Nothing is ever sent to the developer.
What it reads- Your documents' text, only to count words. To count words, the extension loads the plain view of a document you have open (or have added to a writing challenge) from docs.google.com, using your own Google sign-in. It counts the words on your computer and then discards the text. The text is never stored or sent anywhere.
- Text you copy in a document. When you copy a selection, the extension counts its words to show you. The text isn't kept.
All of this stays in Chrome's own extension storage:
- Your settings, such as theme, dimming, goals and bedtime. These sync between computers signed in to Chrome with sync turned on.
- Daily word counts and streaks: for each day, how many words you wrote in each document, keyed by the document's ID. These stay on this computer only.
- Writing challenge: for each document you add to a challenge, its ID, its title and its word count each day. These sync between your computers through Chrome sync.
- Docs where you turned night mode off, listed by document ID (synced).
Chrome sync is provided by Google and covered by Google's privacy policy. The developer can't see any of this data.
Limited UseLamplighter uses this data only to provide the features described above. It’s never sold, used for advertising or used to decide creditworthiness, and never sent to the developer or anyone else. The only transfer is Chrome sync carrying it between your own computers, as described above. The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your control- To save or restore your history as a file, use the extension's settings page.
- To delete everything the extension has stored, remove the extension.
