Lamplighter
A warm night mode for Google Docs, with quiet tools for writing. For people who write late.
- Platform
- Chrome. Microsoft Edge soon.
- Status
- Coming to the Chrome Web Store in November.
- Price
- Free
- Privacy
- No accounts, analytics or ads. Privacy policy
- Version
- 0.7.1
- Warm themes, or your own paper and ink colours. The page, toolbar, menus and comments all change.
- Follow the clock: turn it on to dim as the night goes on.
- Alt+Shift+N turns it on or off. Leave any single doc as it is.
Off until you turn them on, each with its own switch.
- A faint word counter: this doc's words today, toward a daily goal.
- Copy a selection while editing a doc to see its word count and read-aloud time.
- Sprints of 15, 25 or 45 minutes.
- The toolbar fades while you type. Typewriter scrolling and focus mode.
- A bedtime reminder, once a night.
- Words and read-aloud time for each chapter, found from your heading styles.
- Daily words and streaks.
- Writing challenges, such as 50,000 words in November, across several docs and computers.
Your documents' text is counted on your computer and never sent anywhere. Your settings and any writing challenge (its doc titles and counts) sync between your own computers through Chrome sync; daily word counts stay on this computer.
